All the best people are

Crazy that is, they say the best people in life are crazy. It's a fine line between being insane and being a genius so I thought it was only fitting that insanity would be represented in the beautiful monsters art project. View it as a bad thing or a crazy thing, you've got to admit that it's interesting at the least.
So here you are, a girl turning into a Cheshire Cat.

This picture was first sketched and then colored in with watercolor pencils and then scanned to my computer and fixed up a bit. Hope you enjoyed it.

"I'm fine" Makes The Best Monster

This next picture I've made was rather interesting to draw. I really liked drawing it and liked the concept behind it, which I hope you got from the title of this post, anyhow, give it a chance will ya ;D
The copy on the top was made by watercolor pencils and the one on the bottom was that same copy modified with a drawing board.

Bits and pieces

Bits and pieces are the things we are made from.
We are sown together from shards of emotions,
beautiful, scary, unimaginable thoughts.
And all we wait for is for someone to break that all.
Until we give up the facade and fall.
And what we become is more than a monster, something stronger, something different than what was.

Speak

Hi there! Sorry for not posting in...well forever. It's pretty much classic me, I have all the time in the world and then BAM exam weeks hits and I'm filled with inspiration. I wonder why that is.
Anyhow, let's get to the point. The picture I have for you now is a drawing inspired by a book called Speak by Laurie Halse Andersen, (Geez I hope I spelled that correctly). It's...well I really don't want to spoil the book for those who haven't read it and for those who have...they probably know why this drawing fits the theme of my blog. The girl in the picture is the book's main character Melinda Sordino and I'll leave the rest for you guys to interpret.
The drawing was done with plain old pencils.
Hope you enjoy, Love Always, Alexandra!

Dear you...

Hi again, I decided I'd also post this pencil drawing I did of Mick St.John...kinda. It was supposed to look like him, but it's close enough. For those who don't know, Mick St. John is a character from CBS's show Moonlight. Yeah I watched it and yeah I loved it, every episode. The thing about the show was that St. john was such an intriguing character, I mean talk about a beautiful monster, that man had skeletons in every one of his closets, but man did he try his best to be good. And that's really all we can try to do, strive to be good.
Anyhow, enjoy!
This is the original scanned copy I took and...
the one below it is a bit modified copy of the same drawing.

Pretty in Pink, Ugly in Green

Hi again, it's been an exciting and busy two weeks. Not to bore you with those details, I'll just skip most of it. All you need to know is that Halloween is approaching and it's really breathing some life into my beautiful monsters art project. Although I feel like some of the stuff I have done is kind of different from what these past drawings have been like. I have a couple of pencil sketches and of course the lovely picture that this post is all about.
As you might have picked up, the name of the drawing is Pretty in Pink, Ugly in Green, it's one of my favorite drawings so far. The whole reason I started this project was because I was fascinated with the ugly side of people. So often we get to see the fine polished side to people, but that's not really how people are, or are supposed to be. The truth is we're ugly in all our beauty, we want and we need more than we give and we get. Perhaps it is good that we hide our true nature, because no matter how fascinating it is, it's better we try to behave like decent people. Still there are feelings bubbling and stirring under the surface, and some of those feelings are more than often greed or jealousy. I find the color that best represents these emotions is green, so without further a due, here you are: Pretty in Pink, Ugly in Green.

The picture is done with watercolor pencils and then I adjusted the contrast and the lighting.
Hope you enjoyed my art, Love Always, Alexandra!

Always a Flower Girl, Never the Bride

Hello again! Even though I basically spent my entire weekend watching the fourth season of Hawaii Five-0, I still managed to draw this lovely flower girl with blood on her...well teeth? I just had this funny idea to draw a girl who is never the bride, bridesmaid or princess of  the day. She's always plain old Jane with a flower crown. So instead of representing the Green Monster, she just got blood thirsty eyes and a wicked smile.

This picture was done on watercolor paper with watercolor pencils. Then it was modified with a drawing board to give it more depth or color, because my scanner just made it look kind of...lukewarm? I don't know, anyhow I thought it could use a splash of color!
Hope you enjoyed my art work, Love Always, Alexandra!

I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't

Hello again, it's been a while since I've been able to write a new post, which is mostly because my drawing board and new computer seem to dislike each other...a lot, I'm not kidding.
Anyhow, I decided to ditch the drawing board and just stick to the basics. I have another beautiful monster to add to the collection. This picture is called 'I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't' (Florence and the machine fans will get the reference...I hope)
The whole picture was inspired by Florence Welch, her music and her looks. I kind of think it distantly looks like her, but the most important part that inspired me was the album BETWEEN TWO LUNGS by Florence and the machine. I feel like most of the songs fit the atmosphere in this picture and if you have the time to listen to the song 'Howl' from this very album, I'd like to think the picture would open up a little more.
I also decided to add the pencil sketch I did of this picture before adding the colors. Again the process was pretty much same as in the pictures before. I drew the sketch, then colored it with watercolor pencils and somehow this happened.

Hope you enjoyed my art work. Love Always, Alexandra!

Darker Shadows

So this is the third picture in my art project, as you can see it differs from the previous ones quite a bit. It's drawn with just a pencil and then scanned to a computer. Then I've added quite bright and maybe a bit inappropriate colors to it with a drawing board.
ENJOY!

Granny Smith

So this is the second addition to my collection. It's called Granny Smith (because of the green eyes, haha I know, it's genious). Basically it's done the same way as the previous picture; first it was just a pencil drawing and then I colored it in with watercolor pens.
Enjoy!

What's all this about?

Hello to all and everyone. This blog has been created as a place to store my drawings/paintings that belong to my art project called "Beautiful monsters". It's basically a collection of pictures I'm working on that have or will focus on a person with beautiful features, but they will also have something that gives the picture some edge. Not being just dull and conventionally beautiful, these pictures are meant to have perhaps an ugly or scary feature to them. I currently only have two drawings ready (yeah I kinda work whenever I have inspiration, it's like a curse), but as I said it's an on going prjoect so there is more to come.
Please feel free to comment on pictures, constructive feedback is always a good thing (It actually makes my day) and feel free to request drawings that fit into the theme of the project.
Also, a thing worth mentioning would probably be that all the drawings, pictures and paintings etc. are all my own artwork unless otherwise stated. Please do not copy or use them without permission.

I hope you enjoy my artwork!

Love Always, Alexandra
